It's so easy to apply iron-on transfers

  • Step 1

Pre-wash your textile without fabric softener .

To process the iron-on transfers, your textile must be completely dry. To do this, press the textile to allow any remaining moisture to evaporate.

  • Step 2

Heat your iron to 130°C - 160°C (level II) . Place the iron-on image on your fabric with the transfer foil facing upwards and press the motif on piece by piece with a little pressure (approx. 10-20 seconds each) . Please never press on the ironing board. Make sure you have a solid surface (floor or table).

Let your iron-on image cool down a little (the transfer is warm) and remove the backing.

Then cover your picture again with baking paper and press the motif one last time.

Tip: You can cover the iron-on image with baking paper before pressing it on to protect your fabric and the image.

  • Step 3

Only wash your textile after it has rested for 24 hours. After the resting time, your new work can be washed inside out at up to 60°C and can be tumble dried (gentle cycle).

Suitable textiles for iron-on transfers

Iron-on transfers are a great way to make textiles creative and individual - and the best thing about them? With a few exceptions, almost all fabrics can be used! Whether you want to embellish clothing, bags or home textiles, my iron-on transfers stick to a variety of materials and can be applied quickly and easily. Here you will find an overview of the most common fabrics that are perfect for iron-on transfers, so that your designs always look their best.

cotton and cotton blends

Ideal for most iron-on transfers as it absorbs heat well and provides good adhesion.

polyester

Even if many people are hesitant about it: Polyester can withstand heat and, thanks to the composition of the polyester fabrics, bonds wonderfully with the adhesive on the iron-on transfers. If you are still worried, cover the iron-on transfer with baking paper when pressing it on.

Denim & Canvas

Robust cotton fabrics such as denim or canvas are ideal for iron-on transfers, especially for bags or jackets.

Jersey, French Terry & Sweat

They are perfect for my iron-on transfers. This way you can immediately add accents to your sewn works. The iron-on transfers are highly stretchable without losing their look - you can also attach them to performance fabrics.

synthetic leather

Faux leather is a versatile and modern material that is perfect for iron-on transfers. It has a similar structure to real leather, but is made from synthetic materials, which makes it lighter and often easier to care for. When pressing onto faux leather, however, you should make sure to reduce the heat and pressure a little so that you don't end up with marks on the leather. It's best to try it out on a small section! Be sure to cover it with baking paper!

viscose, silk, wool-silk jersey

You can also apply iron-on transfers to delicate fabrics, but you should use lower heat settings and cover your fabric with baking paper to protect it.
